Oahu Hawaii Wedding takes place despite Hurricane Ana! The wedding has been planned for since January of 2014. It was to take place on Oahu at Turtle Bay. Their are certain logistical considerations to make when planning a wedding at this more remote North Shore location. Most wedding vendors (minister, photographer etc…) live in the Honolulu area. This is where 98% of our weddings take place. It can be 2 hour drive each way for these vendors. Some won’t consider doing this, others ask for more money.
Anyway we create a wonderful plan for this wedding to take place next to the resort at the nearby Kawela Bay. We have a minister, a photographer, videographer, coordinator to set up cake and cider along with a beautiful circle of flowers to marry within on this pristine beach. The client hears from me about the potential of a hurricane hitting at the time of their wedding about 5 days prior. Surprised as the Hawaiian Islands are rarely hit by hurricanes he decides to continue with the vacation and the destination wedding plans. Other clients upon hearing the news had decided to postpone their trip and their wedding or vow renewal plans.
As the wedding day approaches I am carefully monitoring the weather radar and communicating with the client and the wedding vendors. Our vendors, each and everyone of them decide to chance bad weather, flooding and high waves that can crash onto our shoreline roads even in non storm weather and make the 2 hour drive. That morning it was determined if we move up the timing by a few hours it would give us a better chance. So instead of a 4;45pm start we had everyone one hurry to get ready and did it at 2pm.
Some adjustments as to the location were made last minute but all turned out well. The heavy rains came in shortly after the conclusion of the wedding. The vendors all made it back home safe and sound. The clients wrote me and said:
Angelica and I wanted to express our thanks for your company and vendors being so flexible and willing to make our wedding a success during a hurricane and all of
the other challenges we went through. It was much appreciated.
We really enjoyed our time on the islands. It was our first time there, but I suspect not our last.
Mark and Angelica”
